I need to pick the collective brain here.

Recently I have acquired a new "niece" who just went to P1 for the first time yesterday (in Europe). I know nothing about her except this and her name, and i know next to nothing about her mother too.

I would like to send her (the niece) some nice small present for Christmas, maybe something from Singapore...  I also assume that she does not speak English so books from here are probably out of the question.

I was thinking of scouting the "tourist junk", maybe a jewellery box, or a shawl???

I only have 2 small boys so I'm not sure what 7 year old girl would fancy.

Please help Smiley

~ cute stationery.

~ jewellery trinkets - bracelets, necklaces (then again, some girls are NOT into this at all). also, jewellery boxes if you're going that route (lots of pretty made in India wooden ones, or Chinese cloisonne).

~ hair stuff (clips, scrunchies, hairbands) - loads in Daiso, or in those little shops that specialise in earrings and hair

~ purses (Indian, Chinese)

~ kids Chinese silk top or cheongsam (you can get these in tourist shops).
won't suggest the SIA sarong kebaya outift because unless you know what it is about ... the reaction would most likely be "huh?"

~ little Chinese wooden clogs (i think Bugis Street carries those)

~ pretty sari fabirc kids' clothing - Indian outfits (check out little India - Serangoon)

~ pretty ornate child chopsticks ( you can get kid chinese spoons too, to make a set)
