If she is an employee and it is appropriate to her role for her to accompany said exec on trips, dinners, etc, then it is hard to prove misuse of funds. Why would the b.o.a.r.d give a stuff, as long as the exec takes care of business and the bottom line has them smiling?

I am European, and have worked in Singapore's banking sector for many years.

It never failed to surprise me the number of Singaporean girls who, due to their ambition and materialism, are willing to do things that are questionnable / reflects poor judgement. Stories abound eg the girl who slept with her boss and got found out by his tennis racket wielding wife. More recently, those of us who attended the recent Oktoberfest celebrations at the Swiss Club would have been treated to a spectacular sight of a senior guy groping his Singaporean female  subordinate in full public view.

Is it cool to have an affair with someone in your company, but not in your direct reporting line?

Are singaporeans pretty conservative about office affairs? Or do they not care if people are having affairs in the office? Are expats' attitudes different?

Oh, they care. But they still do it. In my experience, the locals are more likely to cheat than the expats actually. Locals are very conservative, but those values are thrown to the wayside as soon as an opportunity presents itself.

Just ask a local woman if she would mind her husband working with an office full of "China girls" and watch her blood pressure rise. Then ask a local man if he would mind his wife having office drinks with her male expat colleagues, or business dinners with the rich local bosses, and you'll see the same reaction. There is zero trust. Sadly, there is good reason for that.

Married women in Singapore are diagnosed with HIV more than any other demographic group in the country. Just look at the local HIV/AIDS campaigns: they are aimed at married men wearing condoms when they are shagging around on their wives while on business trips.

Oh really? I think many Singaporean guys dislike their wives or girlfriends hanging out with expats is because expats are viewed as being sleazy connesoirs (sp) of low class women, and association with them taints the wife as being low class. And trust me (I've seen it), expats are kown to take sexual advantage of their drunk colleagues, especially female local subordinates.

Somewhat true because too many Caucasians hang out with the Thai and Filipino hookers and  Orchard Towers crowd. Or marry them, or their maids.

If you hear encounter or hear some of this 'mams' with airs and graces order their own countrymen maids around or speak with an accent ... any respect for them goes right out of the door (for me).

There are many levels of expats (classy -> unclassy, uncouth low-life back home who suddenly become 'princes' in Singapore).

Thank God for heavily subsidized better education. Even at 13, the Opium Wars made me totally rethink and question the colonial-mentality and 'Made in England goods are better' some of my relatives had. Or how stupidly excited some older locals can be worshipping British Royalty or their weddings (what a money-wasting elaborate farce).

Also revealing why English is the main language of communication globally.
Greed is greed, and low is low ... regardless of culture.

I am an Expat and you are correct when you say that there are "unclassy, uncouth  when  back home ladies, who suddenly become 'a princess' in Singapore".

It is amazing how they forget where they have come from, you really can spot these "jumped up ar**holes" a mile away and they do make me laugh with all their airs and graces, when they are just "fur coat with no knickers" type of people.  Grin

Anyone for afternoon tea, darling.........

Seek help. You clearly need it.
