Tobaco restriction inSingapore

I am coming soon to singapore (with family) on transfer from India. An elder person who shall be coming and staying with us is an habitual tobacco chewer.
I t is learnt that there are restrictions on tobacco imports in S'pore, can any one guide us about the implications of the said person bringing  own tobacco stock for his consumption.

I am not sure of the quantity of chewing tobacco one can bring into the country.

I know my wife was caught by customs for carrying 2 cartons of cigarettes and she forgot that she had them in the carry on luggage so she inadverently ticked the "green".

She was fined S$800 + gst.   The reaon for the penalty was that (i) she did not declare and (ii) she was only allowed to carry one carton into the country.

Better check the rules and follow them cos the fines are very expensive.  I believe there is a web site for Singapore customs.... anyone know it on the top of their heads?  (or try doing a search on the internet).

You can buy duty paid tobacco products in Singapore. I don't know if anyone stocks chewing tobacco though.

Your chewer will be fined if he spits it out in a public place.

Import of ANY tobacco is prohibited in Singapore.
Customs will allow one packet, if opened, for own consumption.

The allowed quantity for travellers is:
- 1 liter of liquer
- NO tobacco

Chewing tobacoo is one of the worse form of tobacco usage. It may be a good time to get that person stop doing it. There are strong correlations between chewing tobacco and oral cancer, getting it treated in Singapore could be VERY expensive. Think about it.

Quite clearly Imagine is completely wrong, otherwise you wouldn't be able to buy cigarettes in Singapore.

The point is that if you import it, you must declare it, and pay duty on it - or face the consequences.

Having said that, if Singapore did ban the importing of tobacco, I'd be happy.

Well, I just went to the customs and excise duties website (thank you Fifa) and it says that chewing tobacco is prohibited...period.  So, I guess that settles that.
I also saw chewing gum on the list of prohibited items...and I have always understood that you can bring gum in for your own personal use.  Did something change recently or have I been misinterpreting this rule?

Haven't seen people chew the stuff since I left London. Most of east london (bangla town) chew bacca all day are completely off their heads. So  suggest you get the old dear up to JB once a week for a fix and then back again. It's a fairly good way to increase heart failure too
