I am just about to make an offer on a house to rent. The neighbours house is quite old. Is there any way I can check to see if that house has been signed up to be demolished?

Usually, I wouldn't go for a house next to a knackered one, but this is a very nice house.

Singapore houses' are normally not "signed up" for demolition. What usually happens is that the prospective buyer will buy an old property to either renovate, A&A (alteration and addition) or a complete demolition and rebuilding.

So, you can first check with the URA website to see if the neighbouring property has been transacted recently. Even then, you cannot be certain whether the new owner will tear it down, or just do some restoration or slight touch up.

Make sure there is an exclusion clause in your contract and it is big enough to cover the property.

Ok, pain to move again but better than living on top of a building site.

Btw, these clauses are common, it isn't an odd thing to ask for.

Thank you. We have put in an exclusion clause and the LL has signed the agreement.
