There must be quite a few of you out there who have had sons and daughters turn 18 whilst living in Singapore. Would you please mind sharing your experiences and suggestions on how to celebrate this special birthday. Our house is tiny and we're not millionaires, but we want to provide a memorable event for friends and family. Any Info and input would be really appreciated.

someone I know had a party at a nightclub once.  I don't know if it was a private party or whether she just booked an area and I can't remember what nightclub it was (it was years ago and I didn't go in the end so can't tell you any more than that I'm afraid)............however, a smallish nightclub might be bookable so you could try surfing the net to find out (someone somewhere must have done a blog about a brilliant birthday party they went to at a club in Singapore at some point....everything else gets blogged about around here!   Wink ).  So I'd suggest going down that route to see what you can come up with.

I remember my son attending a friend's 18th birthday party at the Raffles. There were adults and kids present and lots of champagne. As it was my sons first experience with champagne he didn't realise until too late how potent it is...I don't think he will ever drink champagne again!

Would be fun I think for a teenage party.  Am sure you can book a section for privacy.

We were invited to a leaving party a few months ago which was held on a boat.  We got on at Keppel Marina, went out to sea for a bit, then parked off a small island and the kids all swam there.  All together it goes for about 4 to 5 hours, but was great fun.  They provided some drinks and you could bring your own food.  They do afternoon and evening trips.  Both us oldies and all the kids loved it.

Guys, the real party is when the parents are not around... You can organise something but don't worry too much about it. The kids are e.g. embarrassed to drink in front of their parents. And if you're American it's not even allowed as their legal age is 21  Shocked

21 might be the legal age in USA but not in Singapore and guess what, Americans in Singapore can start drinking at age 18!

someone I know booked a hotel room in town for his son for his 18th birthday and a few of his friends and they just all went out on the town and crashed back there afterwards.

But yes, parties for that age should be no-parent affairs I think.

nothing like promoting binge drinking to the kids!! Way to go mum and dad! First pass us off to the maid then dump us in a hotel! Great parenting!!
