Has anyone else found that the quality of the fish fillets at Cold Storage Jelita is quite off at times? I wonder if it is because they pack them in plastic sleeves, then put them on ice?

Yep. So bad in fact I fired off and email to HQ prior to Xmas and you've just reminded me to follow up on the fact I've had no reply (very rare for Singapore).

We hardly ever shop at CS outlets any more. It's an oversized and overpriced 7-Eleven, with poor category management...in just about every category.

Caught short with a fish-hungry visitor and a CS adjacent, I made the mistake of buying some 'nice looking' fish fillets at about three times the price I'd normally pay at a wet-market fish monger. They were full of water! I'd guess 30% of the weight of the fillets was from water either pumped or soaked into them. Scurrilous bacon importers used to pull this trick in the home country, so i'm familiar with the practice. But I'd not suspected CS would stoop to this. Had they been duped...and then passed on the doctored product, plus markup, to the consumer? These were my questions.

Fair Price, Seng Siong, Giant etc all leave CS for dead (and decaying) in the fresh fish category. And most others actually. But you can't beat building a relationship with the local fish monger. Despite not living nearby any more, we still tend to visit a good man at Whampoa. A decent excuse to pick up some chicken rice at Loy Key too.

I buy quite a lot of fish from Cold Storage and so far so good. No complaints. The fruit and veg are a different matter. I am still pointing out the mouldy bits to anyone I can find within earshot.

Our local Giant has a bin there with a sign saying that if you find any mouldy fruit or veg to throw it in there so nobody buys it ..........there have been times where I've felt like chucking a whole section in there  Cheesy

Re fish - I prefer NTUC, Carrefour and Giant for fish (Giant's fruit and veg can be a bit hit and miss but I've never had a problem with the fish).
