I dont understand why some people on this forum cannot live well on 300k+. We live here with 2 kids on a household income of about $320k p.a. and live well and save too. Of course, if rental costs shoot skywards again then we would need to reconsider if its worth staying as I dont see the point of working hard here and not being able to save money for the future.

Rent $45k /14% (3bed 1200sq ft older condo - yes its still possible out of town)
Sch  $60k / 19%
Tax   $40k approx /13%
Cost of living $70k/21% (food, utilities, clothes, entertainment, kids trips, music lessons, swimming lessons, transport - no car, no maid, company medical cover, mainly eat at home)
Travel $30k/9% (3 x holidays per year - 1 to visit home and 2 in local region)
Savings $75k/23%

As for people saying use local school, we did look at local sch option when we came but found it impossible to get both children places at school (we contacted over 50 schools who all said they were 'full').

That is an insane amount of money, can I just ask what you do? A banker or Doctor?

We both work in the IT sector - our individual incomes are nothing fantastic. There are many middle class families on this island both local and foreigners with household incomes (2 persons working) well in excess of $300k. If that wasn't the case how would property prices reach the levels they have and plenty of people willing to pay $150k upwards for the pleasure of a decent car.
