I'm looking at buying property in the UK. I've got the finances in place, but the sheer logistical challenge of buying there while based in Singapore looks a problem (with properties to be looked at, surveys to be done, contracts to be exchanged, etc, etc).
How have other people done it (if, like me, you can only take 2 weeks of leave at a time)? Do you get people to act on your behalf? Are there ways of fast forwarding the process?
Any tips gratefully accepted!

any property agent will bend over backwards for any investor, if they want to buy a property. avoid the cities up north, although cheap i wouldnt recommend it. try surrey, or southern england near london.

I used a mixture of nestoria, upmystreet and rightmove to find a wide range of properties, I then arranged a trip over for 1 week and saw approx. 45 houses with about 6 different agents, it took quite a bit of work (phone calls and emails) to get all the appointments setup though. When we were back in Singapore I narrowed down the choices to 3 houses and made verbal offers on all of them. Eventually we came to getting a good price on the one house which was accepted by the owners and luckily there was no chain. All the paperwork i.e. surveys, contracts etc was handled via email and post. Let me know if you need any more info.

The choice of the property can only be made by you and you have to do something along the lines that SAE did. The rest (contracts etc.)can be easily handled by a good soliitor.

There is no recovery. The only people buying property in the UK are people like SAE who need somewhere to live and don't want to rent. Property prices went down again last month and a turn around is not due for a long time.

Depends where you are funding the purchase from. Sterling is currently weak - which makes UK property appear attractively priced. In a years time, UK property prices might well have stayed flat or gone down,but GBP might strengthen. Recently increasing inflation will tend to hasten interest rate rises, and therefore lead to a stronger currency. If are selling another currency to buy GBP, this will make prices seem higher. You could of course by GBP now and wait..

There wont be a rate hike. They already said that any hike in rates will shatter a fragile economy. Uk has seen positive growth albeit very little but still growth. With the US economy bouncing back stronger, I wouldnt hold off too long if wanting to buy property in the UK.
