Hello,

My family will move to Singapore from New York this June. We have a 9 year old boy who is now in grade 3. I applied SAS last August and was told a couple days ago that there is little chance for him to get in grade 4 this August.

I also contacted CIS but no reply. Anyone who can recommend a good international school that has short waitlist or no waitlist?  Or is there any chance for my son to go to local school?

We will live in the west of Singapore because of my husband's job.

Very appreciate any suggestions and help.

In same position.  We are considering OFS and Dover Court which is British ciriculum (sp?) so maybe not suitable.  Perhaps try CIS again, also Chatsworth as there aren't a lot with places so options are limited.

have you looked at SAIS, it's quite new but haven't heard anything that negative so far.  Good Luck, it's the worst thing about moving.

I don't know the difference between American and British curriculum. I will look at SAIS, but it is a pretty new school. Anyone who has experience with this school?

Thanks,

We visited SAIS last year for out then 10 year old.  We really liked the school found the staff warm and friendly and it offered a good learning environment.  However, it was so new that my husband had concerns it could crash and burn so went elsewhere in the end although my daughter and I were happy to go with it.
I have recently discovered that it has been moving on in leaps and bounds with a constant expanding roll of children.  They are at a temporary campus right now, which in itself is pretty nice but the plans for the new school look great and on a par with other big schools here too.
I would say the British curriculum was slightly ahead of the US (only because we moved from UK to US to Singapore so from our experience!)as UK children start school" a bit earlier in age so if your son does go to a British school and then moves back to the US he will manage just fine.

Good Luck!

We have our 2 kids at SAIS and just love the school. It has grown signficantly since we joined and we move to the new campus after next year, which looks amazing.

Also our children have really made great progress in their Chinese, since SAIS has daily lessons, so that is a nice benefit as well.

Hope to see you there if you join.

new campus is in Upper Serangoon, search their website.  It looks a bit intimidating for the little ones though and more suited to older students.

Actually...from what i understand, there is a special early years section for the little ones, which is also has a small pool for them as well. Schools within a school

 Huh
Also living in NY and planing on moving to Sinapore in July or Aug before school start. We have a 11 year old girl entering 6th grade and a 7 soon to be 8 year old boy entering 3rd grade. He has a hard time reading and get support in school so I am not sure how that is going to work out.  Chatsworth will hold him back a year so he will repeat but I here the IB school are a bit ahead of US school so it may not be so bad.

Looking at the ISS and SAIS.  We are waitlisted at Chatsworth.

Not sure what to pick because we have not visited the schools.

Let me know what you come up with?

Hi,

We contacted the CIS and the admission lady is very helpful. My son probably will get in CIS. But we are still waiting.

We had a high expectation on SAS. We applied last year but were told to get a backup school at the end of last month. It is kind of annoying!

Hope this could be helpful.

In the same boat, we have kids at iss, and our boy is in the same grade as your daughter. As far as the school goes, it certainly does not have the same facilities e.t.c as the 'big name' schools (UWC, Tanglin, SAS), but i do believe their IB program is run very well. The teachers are very dedicated - a number of teachers actually have kids at the school - and are lovely people in general. Great range of kids and teachers from all different nationalities as well.

As long as you aren't going for one of the 'bigger' schools, the ones i would recommend based on what i hear from my older kids (who have friends at the other schools), OFS and ISS seem like good bets (OFS being MUCH bigger in terms of campus and population)
