Waiting with renouncing PR

If I were to move back home is it possible to wait say a year or so before renouncing the PR?

Or is there some legal/practical reason to renounce directly when moving back?

I was thinking of moving back but waiting with renouncing at least a few months so that I can keep the bank account and settle all debts e.g. getting deposit back, tax, mobile phone etc.

I read also that one can get the CPF anyway when moving away permanent so it can't be because of that.

Do you necessarily need to spend an effort to cancel it? Just let it lapse when the time comes.

At least waiting one year shouldn't be a problem at all, I have friends in Europe who had Singapore PR and didn't even move here. So it's not depending on the place where you live.

Good to know, thanks. Yeah ours is due to elapse in 2014 so maybe that is the WTG.

Not sure why they call it "permanent" residency   but I guess its as good expiry date as any for Singapore.
