Does anyone knows a serious legal association I can contact to be informed of my options (divorce vs. separation). I'm afford the all lawyer thing right now. Where can I turn to and is there a support system for expat women with limited financial resources (yes it does exists)?

Most lawyers will give an initial consultation for free.

The law here is quite stringent in terms of divorce.

First, if you haven't live in Singapore for 3 years you aren't eligible for divorce.

You also have to have been separated. As in not living in the same house, for 6 months.

If this is the route you intend to go, it may be easier to go back to your home country. The waiting period may be less and, afterall, if you AND hubby are expats, why would you want the legalities to be in Singapore?

This is all IMOHO...and I'm not a lawyer - just someone who has been there.

Future miss. I've been there and done that too and it is difficult to know where to start looking. If you feel the need to talk I would be happy to meet you for a coffee and tell you what I know. I am not a counsellor, just a woman who knows what its like to feel lost.

Sorry, couldn't resist it. But rest assured, more a comment on lawyers than on divorces.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear of the hardship.  Hope things work out for you.

I know a solicitor who may be able to help.  Email me for details if you are interested (hit the email icon).  If he is not able to help, he might be able to suggest other points of contact.

I don't know him well, he is a friend of a friend but he seems like a really nice guy during the times that I have met him.

In any case, all the best for your future.
