Yes, only planning on borrowing 20% for the house. We have saved hard to do that. We don't want that kind of debt hanging round our necks.

Yes, of course, that was a stupid comment about the car. We would not borrow to buy a car, especially not on a credit card. We are planning on using the money from the sale of our car here to buy a car in the UK. We only want to have credit cards for using to buy day to day items such as groceries and shopping.

We too are with HSBC and have been with them for over a decade. We will go talk to them.

Banks doesnt care if you have banked with them 100 years!! They are solely there to make as much money as possible, even when your so called bank manager says otherwise.

Why on earth are you coming back to the UK??! Its in a terminal decline, so much so even the public sector is making ist staff redundant. Stay where you are, or move elsewhere like Australia. Dont come back to the UK, it isnt a nice place if you are old.

The UK is home and a great place to live.  I do not regret moving back, we have good jobs and a lovely home .  Oz is over rated, too far away from the rest of the world, and is also very expensive these days in case you hadnt noticed. Britain does have its issues but its home,we are free to do as we please,we love it and thats all that matters.  Each to their own

I agree. Australia is great for a holiday and has amazing places to see. However living there is a different kettle of fish. Even if I had the opportunity to, I'm not sure I would want to live there long term.

And you may find it difficult to get into Australia if you don't have a criminal record.

Nice place agreed.  I like my cheap long weekends and cheap hols in europe along with my ski holidays too much to want to live way out there.  Unless its sydney or melbourne its just a tad too laid back for me, but nice place.

Sydney and Melbourne are nice enough places to visit, but it doesn't ring enough of my bells to make me want to up sticks and live there.
