We have decided to try the Dukan Diet.  We haven't found it so easy to find foods that are 0% fat as the diet prescribes.  Has anyone found these things?

And what do you eat when you go out to Asian restaurants (Chinese, Thai, Indian etc)?  Or do we have to stay away from them for the near future?

Personally did not try it but I have a friend that did.  The few times we ate together at a Chinese restaurant, she would mostly order the dimsum items but remove the skin/wrapper. Or their steamed items with sauces on side so she could choose how much to use (if any).

I know she ate a lot of 99.99% fat free yoghurt that didn't have the fruits. I think usual was vanilla.

Thanks for that.  I didn't think of ordering the dim sum and leaving out the skin.  Good idea.

Eating out is proving to be more difficult than I thought and takes a lot of planning.

Cold storage stocks fat free plain yoghurt which I have used instead of creme fraiche and quark which I can't find.

I'd  definitely avoid restaurants the first one or two weeks until you get into the stride of things. after that Japanese seems to be the easiest place to eat out!

Yes I am eating a lot of Japanese food but it is making me broke!

Thanks for the tip on Cold Storage.  Found the yoghurt and also 0% cream cheese (at Tanglin Marketplace).

I would have thought by now there would be websites with advice on following the diet in Asia but haven't found one yet.

Am also considering this diet.  Can you get the oat bran anywhere in SG?

Cold Storage has oat bran.
Thanks OP.  My local one didn't but I found some in Fairprice Finest.  Also Carrefour have a good selection of fat free yoghurt and fromage frais.

On day 2 of the diet and feeling good so far  Smiley

dumb mum how is it going?  I started out well but recently have lost momentum.  Two overseas trips and a lot of necessary entertaining made it difficult to be strict and reminded me of all the food I love and was missing.  It is hard to get back on and to get the regime going again.  The protein is also becoming boring.  I need a boost of some sort.  Have you found some interesting ingredients?

Going well so far. Have reached my target weight but now trying to consolidate.  Are you signed up for the coaching?  The online forum is very helpful for recipe ideas.  have to say I'm eating quite a lot of eggs - mushroom omlette for dinner last night.  Am hoping to have a 'celebration meal' today, so looking for ideas here.

Google German Market Place . They have quark and other low-fat soft cheeses as well as Kefir and buttermilk. The lowest quark is usually 10% or Magerquark. They get a delivery every Friday; if you want it on a regular basis they will keep it back for you as long as you let them know a few days before. There is always a queue for these products on a Friday.

I tried the diet when I was on a pro-long business trip. I ate a lot of sashimi, steak (only the meat), tuna/steak tartare while overseas. These are the easiest to find. I managed to lost 3 kg but my weight remains stagnant for 2 weeks. I suspect my body is used to the protein only diet, and I switch back to taking some carbohydrates. For some weird reason, I actually lost another 2 kg after I went back to carbos.

Now, I am trying to go back to the protein only diet. Anyone had similar experiences?

Hi Ani B,
Petit Filous are definitely not allowed as part of the Dukan Diet - they are high in fat and stuffed full of sugar - no wonder your galettes taste so good, but not going to help with the weight loss, I'm afraid!  You can get 2% fat Total Greek yoghurt in most supermarkets, which works well in the galettes and other desserts.  Also Carrefour sometimes have 0% Fromage Frais in stock.
Quark - I have been making my own from 2% Buttermilk + equal volume of skim milk.  Leave overnight in oven at lowest temperature, then strain through muslin and leave to cool.

I've found this diet very successful - lost over 5kg and best of all, it's staying off!
