Earlier this year the Economists questioned the financial return of MBA programmes, in fact it stated that MBA grads earn less than they did when they commenced the course!! Though I was sure it was just a misprint

economist.com/whichmba/think-twice

Do you think it is correct for MBA programmes to produce what they think the market wants, rather than what ought to be taught?

What are your thoughts on MBAs in general, in terms of its price, employability prospects, and financial returns?

I would not employ someone just because they hold an MBA, no matter where they studied.

So my initial assumption was correct then. MBAs are not worth much if they hadnt much prior work experience.

Could MBAs thus be an education bubble?

Two things we never employ:

1. People without experience, regardless of qualifications and
2. brits.

Neither are worth the effort.

Just because they have have no - must have the experience and other skills.

I have an MBA - gets me nowhere internally but headhunters call because recruiting company's put it down as a requirement and it ticks the boxes.

I enjoyed doing mine - did not do it for increased salary etc - helps me most in understanding others work and spotting bullshit

Do they generally offer salaries that are higher, or a higher employment offer?

Is your MBA accredited?

Typical Singapore HR will only give about 15% rise so I would not move for that - just not worth it. Jobs overseas they offer the going rate for that position.

Yes the MBA is accredited AMBA and EQUIS and also appears in both FT and Economist. lists

Its worth doing an MBA from a reputable university. Aim for the top 3 and your CV will look credible instantly.

There are many MBA's out there that are not worth it and are a waste of money.
