Hi all, I am starting the Cambridge Weight Plan program today and wanted to know how others have found it. My best friend from UK has been on the program for the last 2 weeks and so far she has lost more than one stone!  She is on the sole source plan so just 3 shakes a day, she said it has been hard but well worth it- in fact, it is also changing her attitude about food.

I am 5’4 and need to lose about 3 stones to get to 9 stones.  I can't wait to go and get some smaller sized summer clothes!

Have anyone tried Cambridge Weight Plan before? If so, how much have you lost and how long has it taken you?

As a follower of diets for years and someone who has put on and lost too many kilos to count, I would strongly suggest to stop dieting and start living.  In March this year, I was at my heaviest again after yet another diet crashed and all the weight I had lost since last september had been paid back with interest.  I was at the office walking up stairs and it wasnt easy and I was breathless and thought what the hell am I doing?

So I started a plan - 1 min run 2 min walk and slowly increased until I could run 30 minutes.  It took 8 weeks and a lot of effort.   I stopped eating too much of the wrong thing and a bit more of the right thing but it wasnt an effort, it was just what I should be doing anyway.   On my last major diet - I wasnt allowed to have alcohol or basically anything so the moment the first hurdle was missed, it was free for all.... this is the common dieters issue and diets fail because of it... so shakes, powders or whatever other short term solutions are just that... short term....

So forget the cambridge - eat what you want but be aware of what you spend your calories on, exercise because it makes you feel better and make sure the equation of what you use is less that what you consume and you will lose weight.  This isn't about counting calories so much as not going for that piece of cake or tub of icecream....  sometimes however you can reward yourself.  It's about balance.

BTW - i now can run for an hour and lost around 25kgs but still more to go...  the weight doesnt matter now though , all my followup health tests put me in a healthy range and I know that that salted egg crab or japanese pork ribs from bedok are still on the menu, I can still have them when I really feel like it.  Thats the key

Hi Jcarly,

Are you based in Singapore? If so, where are you getting your supplies? I've been using Cambridge Diet (now Weight Plan) to maintain my weight for the last 5 or so years. I replace some meals when I feel like my clothes are getting tighter for example. It's been very effective, quick and easy for me.

It used to be readily available in the pharmacies then there was only one exclusive distributor at the Bugis area and now, they stopped distributing too and the official source for people in SG according to the Cambridge Weight Plan website is a company in Malaysia. Their pricing are much much higher than before so I was wondering where I might get the soups and shakes for a more reasonable price and much more conveniently too.

I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

Hi Leigh,

Yes, i am now based in Singapore, relocated here since Jan. I have been piling on weight ever since i came to Singapore, and was eagerly looking for an effective and yet economical weight loss program to follow. I happened to come across Cambridge Weight Plan advertisement from July issue of Expat Living magazine, and rang their local counselor for more details prior to embarking on the program. You may visit their website at http://skgoodhealth.blogspot.com or email: skgoodhealth@gmail.com for more info.

Understand from my counselor, Cambridge Weight Plan was formerly known as Cambridge Diet and the products were then available in Singapore pharmacy Guardian or Watson. However, due to their global re-branding effort (from Cambridge Diet to Cambridge Weight Plan), Cambridge products are now only available from local accredited counselor. Personally, i find their pricing fair, not too expensive (abt $5+ per meal). Hope this helps!

So far, the Cambridge range of shakes and bars have been very effective! I managed to shed 4kg in 2 weeks- and even though i am on sole source, i don't feel hungry! Am looking forward to greater weight loss!

Hope you are able to get hold of more Cambridge products soon, and continue to enjoy the 'goodness'!

Joseph 27 hit the nail right on the head.
In addition i would like to add a few more tips:
- Stop snacking in the office.
- Take the MRT or Bus to work? Get off a stop earlier and walk the rest. If you are comfortable with that, then get off 2 stops early.
- For myself.. I bought a nice bike and cycle to work and back daily. (Instead of wasting time sitting in the bus you get the excersice.)
These small efforts of just a little bit less (bad) food here and a tad more of Excersice there will not give you spectacular results in the short term but if applied consistently will achieve long term results that can be maintained.

That is a great piece of advice - it forces you to make a certain distance and adds exercise to the end of the day where most people waste it on their ass watch TV.

Morning exercise where you get heart rate elevated and a walk at the end of the day and you will feel good...  This is a definite case where you need to change your behavior before your attitude will change.  Its counter intuitive but stick with this for 21 days and you be benefit 100x more than if you stick with cambridge for 6 months...  at the end of 6 months, old behaviors return...  stop dieting and start living

Dieting screws with your metabolism and these meal replacement diets are the worst you can do!

I GUARANTEE you, that as soon as you finish and start eating like a human being again you will gain ALL the weight you lost and then some.  If Joseph27 stops his exercise regime (injury, can't be ass'd) he'll blow up in no time as he is already damaged!

There is no way to prevent this if you continue to yo yo diet!

Parents - the one way to prevent this is to NOT allow your children to diet but teach them a healthy lifestyle and encourage them through adulthood.  If you don't screw with your metabolism, have a healthy relationship with food and exercise you "may" be slim all your life - genetics may screw you anyway - but the odds are better.

No its called sensible eating and exercising - i.e. the way you should aim to live.  I have changed my diet to include more fibre, more protein, less fats and far less refined carbs.  I find I am still very happy to do this but sometimes I just want a piece of pie.  At such times, I have one.  This is not yo yo dieting - I did that for 20 years and stopped because it doesnt work it doesnt condemn to a life time of yo yo dieting... but your logic - if you are over weight you are condemned and thats not correct

As for exercising - signed up for the half marathon, got a running coach and pushing myself further.  A step at a time in the right direction....

I don't doubt that you have changed your lifestyle Joseph, and many congratulations on doing so.   My point is that your early dieting history has already screwed with your metabolism and your current marathoners lifestyle is just the opposite end of that same spectrum.

As a still, relatively, young man you may well be able to maintain your weight with your current lifestyle - but what happens when you are 50, 60, 70 etc?   When you are no longer able to compete in marathons etc?   Maybe you will be one of the very SMALL percentage of people who are able to adapt their lifestyles to maintain and if you are - well done!   The vast majority of former and current yo-yo dieters (in the upper 90 per cents) are NOT able to do so.   Hence, the very very successful and HUGE dieting industry - if we all lost weight and kept it off, they'd go out of business!!!!

seriously you don't need any 'weight plan' to lose weight and get fit. all you need is discipline and to stay focused. eat healthy foods - SMALL PORTIONS - this is key - and EXERCISE REGULARLY UNTIL YOU ARE SWEATING - go jogging, bicycling, swimming, any cardio workout - put your fave music in your ears and enjoy your exercise - follow these simple rules and you will lose weight fast and get fit.

I am a producer of 2 seasons of the Biggest Loser so I know what I am talking about. I have lost 12 kg in 4 months and am now fitter at 45 than I was at 25.

Erm, not wanting to be sceptic or such like as there is some good and valid advice in the replies. But isn’t this post e.g. the OP just promoting a product? Eee, all this talk of dieting, thoughts are now turning to having a spam sandwich  Cool

I have no self discipline though - thinking of going to SGH LIFE Centre for a kick start - i know i will only get started if someone is watching me - after that I hope to create better habits like you have done.

you do have self-discipline. everyone does. you just need to get serious about your weight/fitness, make that decision and flip the switch. it's all about mind control. you control your mind not the other way around.
