My husband has recently taken up triathlons and I'd like to get him a watch to use for training and events. Something simple but strong would be ideal. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

My husband is not a triathlete but he bikes and runs occasionally and has a Garmin. He is able to hook it up to the computer for some analysis after.

My husband has a garmin and from what I can see, it is great (but expensive). The only thing I would say to you is that my husband is a very serious triathlete and ironman and has been doing it for 7 years. Since your husband has just started I would buy him a decent polar watch. Go to a Triathlete/ triathlon bike shop and ask for advice. I think that at this stage in his training that would be good enough. It's only after my husband got a very serious coach and training program that he went up to a garmin. Where do you live and I can recommend a shop.

P.s. It's great that he has taken up this hobby and you support him. I know lots of friends who do not support their husbands and they ultimately give it up - not good!!!! Whilst the training can be a bit of a pain in the neck it's great to see your other half fit and healthy and doing something positive for themselves. You also make a lots of friends around the sport and get some great holidays out of it internationally as we have done Wink Also there are loads of things you can buy him for Xmas and birthdays around the sport and they love to receive them Wink

Besides the watch, you may want to get him some Chamois Cream from Udderly Smooth USA...This cream is found in Guardian stores and it is especially made for triatheletes to reduce chafing as well as for serious competitive rides here on the equator.
