Cash transaction limit

Back home (France), there is a maximum amount of EUR 3K above which it is forbidden for businesses to transact in cash... anyone knows if there is something similar here? I checked the MAS website, it doesn't say...

I think it is a free for all here. Serviced apartment refused to accept cheque or credit card for the massive deposit we had to cough up. I had to go to the bank and cash a cheque in person and cart the loot back to the reservations office with me. No limits there!

The service apartment would of course accepted a cashier's cheque. You would still have had to to go to the bank, but there would have been no need to be wandering around with bags of cash

It would stop all the "Black money" coming in by the suitcase from surrounding countries which Singapore promotes itself as a safe private haven for.

Prior to the THB devaluation July 2 1997 there were in the know Thai's flying down here with lots of cash who made a very quick big buck

For normal commerce with shops, there is really no limit. In fact, merchants prefer cash payments as they do not have to pay commissions to the credit card companies. For cash deposits with banks, the limit is $20,000 - above that, the AML alarm bells will ring.  For ATM deposit, the daily limit is $10,000, I think.

Any cash deposit over $10,000 requires completion of a form to state the source of funds. Most SGP Debit cards allow daily cash withdrawal up to $5,000.
