I am an SPR and am going to work in another country for two years.  Is there a requirement, as some other countries have for their PRs,  that I return to Singapore at certain intervals [maybe every 6 or 12 months] to avoid losing PR status? Thank you.

1) Are you being sent by a Singaporean employer and are you still paying tax during your 2 year abscence.? If so, not a problem.

2) Do you have multiple years remaining on your REP so that you can take a 2 year "time out" and then will be back to work here again for at least another 1-2 years after this stint abroad, before needing to renew. If so, not a problem.

3) Are you just taking a job abroad and would like to hedge your bets by maintaining SPR. If so, big problem, a quick visit for 1 or 2 weekends does not cut the mustard and you will probably find your REP renewal is declined...

Thank you, but I just want to check if Singapore has a statutory fixed period after which they cancel your REP if you remain outside Singapore.  Some countries have a firm rule that they cancel your visa / PR if your remain outside that country for more than x months, and I just wonder if Singapore has a similar rule.

No they only review your SPR status when you come to renew the REP. They wont cancel it prematurely
