Am thinking of taking my 2 children for a short break to Phuket. i will be Mum travelling on her own with them and would like any recommendations for a hotel with a kids club. Pool an absolute must and beach would be good but not a necessity. Not too far from the airport. Appreciate any help. Thankyou

Laguna. Choice of hotels depending on budget and can cross sign for meals and stuff.

Yep, would recommend Laguna Beach Resort there. I found them to be one of the most child friendly although it is a bit like Butlins in Asia - but if the kids are happy does it really matter:-)

J. W. Marriott It's near to the airport and kid friendly. It has a kid's club and their kid's pool was a big hit with the kids. There is also a big water park nearby that we spent one of the days at and the kids enjoyed a lot.

No brainer. Excellent kids club and the waterpark on the doorstep. I agree with pp.

J W Marriott is too secluded. Laguna is only slightly less secluded.
Consider Holiday Inn Patong or the brand new Centara Grand Phuket beach Resort (beautiful pools with a lazy river and diving pool but no kids club)

JW Marriott has had new restos built next to it, has a kids club(an excellent one), has the waterpark next door and never take kids to stay in Patong. For kids, JWM every time.

Staying at Patong is the best bet with kids...yes, I know that's where the naughty areas are, but they're easily avoided. And Patong has so much more activity and vibrancy than elsewhere on the island. The resorts recommended here are fine....but they're dull.

I would stay away from those wild touristy beaches in the south of the island...Marriot is the only option and very close to the airport. It's fantastic and has about 17km of clean and clear beach in front of it. The pool area is great and the food is yammy! I would not go anywhere else...I think any other recommendation comes from someone who has not stayed at the Marriott.

Have been to Phuket about a dozen times including Marriott. If you must go get one of the timeshare suites on the side but it is too secluded and the food is a rip off. Laguna a better bet, kata better still.
The kids club is good though, especially the circus thing.
Avoid patong, it is a dump.
If you want a water park then go to Bali, waterbom is fantastic. Generally prefer Bali anyway but Phuket has nicer beaches but only nov to feb, outside that they are dangerous.

If it's only a short break and you'll be on your own as a parent, not too fussed about sightseeing and happy to stick around the resort/hotel, then the Marriott sounds good to me.
I've been to Phuket loads of times and agree that Patong hasn't got much going for it as a family place. I don't particularly like the place if I'm on all adults holidays either, I prefer Kata but that's much further from the airport than the Marriott is and for a short weekend it doesn't seem worth going too far south on the island (the traffic can be quite bad going to the airport from the south too if it's an early flight home).

Thank you all so much for your replies. Having looked at the various posts I have decided on the Marriott which will suit all of us!

Villa Inara - your own Villa, huge selection of DVDs for kids, private pool, 3 minutes from beach, right next to Laguna resort - its fantastic and really child friendly.

If you haven't left yet and are staying at the Marriott, it's worth trying the 'shack' restaurants(sorry don'tremember the names) just outside the Marriott property. About a 10 minute walk on beach. Cheap and yummy. If you are too tired to walk back to the marriott, the owner will give you a ride back to the hotel in his car.
