Would really like to go here and would appreciate any tips on how to get there.

Just looked at price of flights to Cairns and gobsmacked to see price coming out at $30K??? on SQ for 2 adults + 2 children via Brisbane.

Any advice for a cheaper route?

at Christmas.  I booked 2 adults 2 children with Quantas via Brisbane and it came to just over $5,000.  Booked about 1 month ago.  Not flying Business class just economy so I'm not sure how you get to $30,000

Singapore to Cairns via Brisbane

I have just re - checked the SQ site. Looking to go 22-29 October, and the price for 1 adult economy is coming up at $8,548.30

Looks like you got a bargain with qantas

Jetstar via Darwin.

Flight times arent pleasant (overnight flight) but it comes in under $1000/ticket and I have paid as low as $400.

Pay extra for the exit row seats (assuming you dont have kids below 15 in your party) and you will find its actually quite bearable...

I must admit I thought something was a bit off with that price, so I had to check it myself just for curiosity and got the same price. SQ must be nuts.

Qantas came up with a price of $1020 all inclusive for one adult.

There has to be an error on the SQ website.  I too could not believe it so had a look and sure enough it is coming up with $8k+ BUT if you put in Sin/Bne the fare is 1181.70 return and then do Virgin (the airline SQ offered) BNE to Carins then that is A$149.00 each way.  So I think this is just another error on their lousy 'new' site - which still drives me nuts!

The issue is SQ dont actually fly to CNS so the second flight is on a Virgin Australia plane.  Worse than that, its not a codeshare, (DJ flight number for second flight, not an SQ 4 digit number).

This reprices the whole itinerary so you are paying full Y fare (non discounted economy) for the whole trip.

IF you particularly want to fly SQ then book a roundtrip SIN-BNE on the SQ website and roundtrip BNE-CNS on the Virgin website and you will get the same connections and flight times but save at least 75% of the cost as you will find much cheaper booking classes. I know its not logical but thats the way it works...  Grin

The reason I posted is because of the ridiculous fare but if you do manage to call an speak to anyone they will confirm that price!!

I have 5yr old twins so the Jetstar is not an option for me and sadly 5K with qantas is pretty much out of our budget to be honest. We'll probably end up doing Perth again for less than $5K including accommodation and car rental.

Of course you get cheap tickets over Christmas. Because no-one else in their right mind will go there at that time (or any other time from October to April) as it's the wet season, sweltering hot, with loadza mozzies and poisonous and numerous box jellyfish. You should do a little research before you book, darlings! D'oh. Grin
