Has anyone been to Nikoi Island? Looking to go there with small children. Is there anything to do apart from swimming? How are the hotels, beaches? Thanks!

It is a private island so only one hotel. Sort of Crusoe luxe ie no aircon beautifully made with lots of attention to details. One of a kind. Perfect for kids over about 4 or 5yo. Staff are fantastic.

I like it.  It's not luxurious but is very comfortable and has everything you will need for a pleasant family beach holiday.  About an hour across Bintan then a short boat journey.  Food is good; very fresh.  No menu but the kitchen staff will accommodate you if there's anything that you cannot eat.  Loved their wine list last time that we were there - not extensive but great favourites like Two Hands.

Not much more on offer than the beach, pool. kayaks etc.  They can bring a masseuse in from Bintan whenever you need one.  They did a great job separating families from couples at mealtime when we were there.  Dining table set in sand, so children were delighted to play with toys in the sand when they finished eating.  They also screen movies, which kept the children enthralled while we continues to chat etc.

If you are traveling with very young children, do not be tempted by a 3 bedroom villa. Each bedroom is in a separate building )albeit close to one another), so useless for a young family.  A 2 bedroom will work if the parents split up and divide the children between them.  That said, the new villas were not completed when we were last there, so they may be better designed.

open to the elements and mosquito's. Nets are provided but God help you if you have to get up in the night to go....

Also disturbed early every morning with the fishing boats, OK could be worse and pneumatic drills but when I'm on holiday I would like to have an undisturbed lie in:-)
