This is yet another complication of househunting here. The only way to live well here is to be wealthy enough to live in a neighbourhood where a) your neighbours aren't one or two generations off the junk and 2) the distance between properties is great enough for it not to matter. Same applies to condos. A more upmarket property will ban the bl88dy burning.
Excellent... so your househunting criteria is not to have neighbours of Chinese descent? Do you know 75-80% of the population here is of Chinese origin? Dude, you sound like you're really blending in the local culture!
erm no - you have to get neighbours who are smart enough to know what those incinerator things are for and use them

Most condos have them and they have quite strict rules about that kind of thing which is why it's quite nice to live somewhere with a bit of 'crowd control' - with houses it's not so easy, but if they're burning on the street you could talk to the NEA about it and say that while you're not against the tradition, you are against people making a fire risk - the authorities are actually quite concerned about this kind of thing so you may get some joy, especially if they can catch them in the act.
Basically, while I quite like BBQs, I wouldn't go out and light one by my neighbour's front door..............a bit of common sense pays off - shame some people's neighbours don't seem to have any.
