Hey Everyone Smiley

For all the experts out there i have a question, i'm a newbie in singapore i was working in Dubai before. I came here with a job offer but unfortunately its not working out and i will be resigning september will be my last month.

I want to stay here in Singapore and continue to look for a job. I know after my cancelation i have a 30 day grace period but...what if i dont find a job within 30 days

What can i do to conitnue to stay here?
i have applyed for a Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate but was declined....

Can i apply for The Personalised Employment Pass (PEP) what is it exacly...?

Basically what i can do to continue to stay here...can i fly out and come back in..?
In Dubai i knew what to do but as  newbie here im not sure...
I you guys could fill me in it woudl be great! thank you !!!

Once your employment pass is cancelled you will be given a tourist visa, good for a relatively short time (14~30 days). You can apply for a PEP, but if you were turned down for EPEC it's doubtful you'd get it. This pass is intended for people who have been in Singapore on an EP for a while, and is sort of a "half-step" towards PR. It lets you stay in Singapore on your own merits, rather than the endorsement of a company. It's also good for five years, rather than the two years of a typical EP.

You can fly out and return, and it's likely you'd be given another tourist visa, typically good for between 15 and 90 days.

hi Jalanperak

thank you for your response, yes i will aplly for a PEP but likely it will be turned down it seems you also need to have been here for 2 years. I guess the best option is too just fly out and come bck in at the end of the 30 days.

so is it ok to just fly out anywhere close by and come back on the same day?

i think i will then be given a 30days tourist pass or 90 wich i can then renew again for another 30 days in case i need more time...  so i'm guessing flying out is the best option if none of the PEP or EPEc follow through.

is it common for expats here looking for work to this?

cheers!

Same day turnarounds will be obvious to inmmigration what you are up to and this usually only works once or twice, not as a long term solution, you will find the length of each allowable stay will rapidly reduce.

Having said that, there is no need for an air ticket anywhere if you want to save costs, a bus jaunt to JB and back serves the same purpose

May be cheaper but it all ultimately depends on your nationality. I, as a "second class" European citizen used to get 30 days fly-in or 14 days through JB.

"First class" European citizens can get 90 days either way so makes no difference.

Check your visa entitlements carefully as 14 days could be too little ..

When I was doing "visa runs" I found that if I went out and came back through Changi I was more likely to get 90 days. If I went up to JB, I'd get 14 days, because I think they get more obvious visa runs coming through.

Why don't you just take a break somewhere for a few days? Trip up to Bangkok for along weekend, over to Bali for a few days at the beach, then fly back in throgh Changi I think you'll find you'll get more time that way.

Most people who go off to college have no idea what they want to do. Dont worry about it. Go to college and look around, ask advisers or counselors or whatever. Theyll most likely help, and you can find out what you want to do in college. Dont worry about it. Itll come to you.

Don't forget, once the eggs have completely boiled, plunge them into ice water - they're easier to peel.

When this happened to me a couple of years ago, I did the following
- When my EP was cancelled I got 90 days social visit pass
- I then applied for a PEP which was quickly approved
- I then had 6 months to collect the PEP, after which I would have 6mths to look for work
- I delayed picking up the PEP, and in the meantime got 90 days whenever I returned (via JB or Changi)
- Eventually I collected the PEP and then managed to get a job within the 6 months

You can stay at the Sentosa beach by night and job hunt in the day.
Lots of illegal immigrants do that.  Grin

i noe lotsa cases where most body shoppers push their reject cases to f&B outlets located outside mustafa temporary, until they find a job.

they are lotsa f&b eateries outside there who are actually agencies which pose as a front or staging company for apprvoal of rejected passes with a fee.

meaning u can temporary get a waiter "job" whilst looking for a new one.

F&B is lesser stricter and easier for approval.

judging by the number of Indians who I've interviewed for technical positions many would have been better suited to f&b
