We are considering moving back to the UK in the next couple of years and one major consideration is finding the right school for our children, who would be 10 &12 by then.  Location would probably be South East and we would like to find something with a comparable ethos and atmosphere to UWC.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for either private or state schools that they would like to share.

OP, I am in the same boat as you, that is, we are looking to move back to the UK in a couple of years. My son also go to UWC. However he is only 6  Cheesy

I have looked at King Edwards in Godalming and they seem to have a similar ethos. However if I send him to private school in the UK then thinking about it, I want him to take advantage of what a good British private school has to offer, which I do not think is necessarily comparable with UWC. If you are looking around the Surrey area then I believe they have great grammar schools e.g. Tiffin boys and girls schools came out great in the recent O'level league tables.

If you are looking for schools with a similar ethos then google 'round square schools UK"  You will get a list of schools in the UK that have a similar ethos.  UWC Singapore is a member of this organisation and there are several member schools in the UK.  Here is the ethos of Round Square, taken from their website:

Committed, responsible global citizens.

Round Square is a world-wide association of more than 80 schools on five continents sharing unique and ambitious goals. Students attending Round Square schools make a strong commitment, beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility. This is achieved by participating in community service, work projects, exchange programmes and adventuring, which can, and often does, take students half way around the world.

Round Square is based on the theories of experiential educational philosopher Kurt Hahn. Dr. Hahn, one of the twentieth century's foremost revolutionaries in education, believed that schools should have a greater purpose beyond preparing students for college and university. He believed that it was crucial for young people to prepare for life by having them face it directly and experience it in ways that would demand courage, generosity, imagination, principle and resolution. Round Square is an organization embodying this educational revolution.

Dr. Hahn has led to the creation of many outstanding schools, as well as Outward Bound, the United World Colleges and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award., (and its follow-up the “International Award”). As the number of Round Square schools continues to grow and the co-operation among these organizations increases, Hahn's philosophy is making a solid and creative impact on the lives of thousands of students.

All member schools share a strong underlying belief: this is the view of learning by doing. It is an ongoing process of self-confrontation and formation, involving a fundamental objective of the full and individual development of every student into a whole person…academically, physically, culturally and spiritually, within the supportive environment of a school community.

Well, I went to the original UWC - the UWC of the Atlantic in Glamorgan, South Wales. Google for Atlantic College or the full name. You will like it - the college is housed in a real castle.

The UWC here is a poor copy of the original.

Well it didn't seem to do much for your comprehension skills.  The OP is looking for a school for 10 and 12 year olds.  Atlantic College is Grades 11 and 12 only....
