We are considering a trip to Vietnam next May.  Our travel agents have given us a fairly ambitious schedule taking in lots of different places.  We are worried about the kids from a health perspective as we won't be eating in just nice hotels/the major cities.  I'm guessing a decent travel agency catering for Singapore-based expats wouldn't take us anywhere dodgy but wonder whether anyone has any views/recommendations?  Are we being over concerned?

have thought very few people actually still use travel agents.

Do not bank on the fact that they "wouldn't take us anywhere dodgy", I doubt very much whether the people working at the travel agency have ever travelled to this place. Besides what is dodgy to you may well be very acceptable to someone else.

If you think it is a fairly ambitious schedule then it probably is. Go with your gut. Do the homework yourself. Its fairly easy nowadays to find out about area's, hotels, restaurants and anything else you might need to ensure your holiday goes smoothly.

I have only been to Hanoi but one thing I would recommend is make sure you all clean teeth with the bottled water provided. I learnt that one the hard way.
