Almost anything from Canon, they work with anything without much effort and are virtually bullet proof.

iP2770 (4800dpi),  S$79
iP3680 (9600dpi),  S$139
iP4870 (9600dpi),  S$199

Head to Sim Lim or Funan and have a scout around and see which takes your fancy. A couple of outlets are running specials on HP at the moment at $45-55 even i've seen one offer for an All-in-One HP1050 for $55 so it's worth going to have a look around. Personally I'm not a fan of HP as I've ran into software/driver problems before but..... have a look.

ABB
Anything But Brother.

You need to decide how much you will be printing. Many printers are amazingly cheap but the cartridges are hellishly expensive.
HP go this route.

Check out how much they sell their toner cartridges for.  We've got HP and it's cheaper to buy a new printer than replace all cartridges...........unless we go to the UK or somewhere to buy them, then it's cheaper.  Rip-off Singapore at its best.

Canon, in my experience have some pricey cartridges - we've had a lot of trouble with a very expensive canon printer that we got and it has put me off buying canon again.  The HP printer is OK, still not great, but it's lasted longer than the canon one did and was a fraction of the price (the canon one is sitting, gathering dust because it's expensive to fix but cost too much to just dispose of).

Speaking of ex-office equipment - does anyone know anywhere that buys things like this (a place that can perhaps recondition and sell on).  I know there are quite a lot of places around Jalan Besar which have second hand photocopiers and things all cling-wrapped sitting around, but do they buy them off people direct or do they have some kind of deal going on with big companies?  I was told that they sell them on to other countries like India, but not sure if this is true.
