eating fish at their desks at 9am

Yes I hate people who eat fish in the morning... including the New Yorkers who eat their disgusting bagel and lox, the westerners who eat salmon for breakfast and the Japanese too. Smiley

Yes, nasi lemak is an occasional breakfast food enjoyed in the cubicles here too.  Sometimes prata also.  But a greasy mess of bee hoon in wax paper is the #1 choice of staff in my office for their breakfast which, of course, they couldn't possibly eat at home before they come to work like I do.

Exactly! Always amuses me when they eat it shops in front of customers as well. Bits of ikan billis and tofu stuck between badly placed teeth while trying to sell you a mobile phone in broken english.

While I will not be sad to leave, you have to laugh at it all.

*yawn* another foreign talent whose contribution is to make fun of non-native English speakers' English and the local food... how quaint ah!

Thats a really valid point. I have also noticed how petty and childish the locals are here. Really baffling behavior sometimes. Like children in adults bodies.

Guess thats why we're all here.

I second this. I don't mean to generalize but in my 4 years here it seems some of the locals really take employment for granted. They just think that their economy here is always going to be super great and there's always a job for them so some of them just come across as unconcerned about how well they perform or how long they stay somewhere.

I am the exact opposite of this. I feel like I've always got to prove myself. I am mad that I can only have 1 job, back home I had a great paying main corporate job (until the big downsizing) & I usually balanced that with weekends waiting tables or working in retail, something for extra cash. I can't do that here, I can only work for the company that issued the work pass. Singapore is actually sorta hurting me & my born & raised Singaporean wife in this regard by not approving my PR so I can go do the work that many here take for granted.

to all foreigners (including PRs) who are unhappy living in Singapore - Changi Airport and the Singapore-johor/malaysia border crossings are open 24/7, so you are free to leave Singapore any time you want to as long as you have a valid passport.

Getting paid 3 or 4 times more than the locals in my office.

Hardly any tax and south east Asia to travel and spend it in - will stay thank you for a while

The term is "eating snake", not "eating fish"!
