Thank you for your replies. My 3 kids are between 14 and 5. Took everyone's advice on board and booked on Emirates which was 40 per cent of the price of SQ (6.5k versus 15k) and with careful picking had reasonable stopovers. Thanks again.

Possibly a desperate for more revenue as their passenger numbers have been constantly dropping through the last several months.
