Hello everybody  Smiley

My current situation:

I am 21 years old, Swiss and really intensively looking for a job in Singapore. I am living here since 2 months with my boyfriend. He had the opportunity to work for the same company as in Switzerland. I have a long term visit pass, that means we stay 2 years or maybe longer.

Now i realize it is not so easy to get a job, if you are not PR or singaporean it is a hard path.
I made an apprenticeship as a laboratory assistant in Switzerland (=Diploma). I finished with best results in the country and i really like to work in the lab!
I can speak perfectly german, spanish and english. After living 16 years in the Dominican Republic i decided to go to switzerland make my studies and now here i am again in an other country.

I am very good working with many different softwares, e.g. SAP.

What i have done till now:

I sent my resume and made so many calls to different Recruitment Firms, e.g. Kelly Scientific. I know there aren't many jobs in this category for expats like me but even if i try with other kind of jobs it doesn't get better. I tried finances, insurances, banks and other office jobs.

Can you give me a tip what else i can try? maybe i am doing something wrong.....i hope so, because i really want to do something productive!

Thank you very much!

How about the Swiss school and the German European school as a teacher's assistant, admin staff or lab assistant?

I was wondering the same thing. She sounds like a intelligent girl, she wouldn't do such a stupid thing. Or would she?

I am not familiar with your line, but do you know which are the companies that you are interested in working? If yes, have you considered checking their website for potential internships / management associate positions?

My company have quite a number of interns and management associates. Some fresh graduates applied for interns positions because they cannot find a permanent job. And those interns who performed well, are usually offer a permanent position after their internship.

Read the OPs original post, she doesnt have a degree so the advice you offer is worthless

OP consider going into full time education and get some relevant degree.  Without one you are just another unemployed statistic

Thank you for the tips but i already checked many, many, many of those companies....nestle, novartis, syngenta, clariant, roche, bayer, SGS....and so on....
I send a lot of reminders and its always the same answer, you do not fit to the position. Although i really analyze the positions i apply for and they are not above my qualifications i do not get the chance to meet for an interview.

Kind of a boring thing having to wait so long for a job..

I was making some research about the studies here in Singapore and i am not sure if there is anything else i can do after a diploma than a bachelor, what takes 3 years and i just stay for two years!

Hi, I really understand your situation. However it's not an unusual thing to spend months looking for a job until one actually finds a suitable one. Important thing not to lose faith. It might be more difficult without a degree but not impossible as I know from many of my friends who had a diploma too. Talk to many people, do networking, keep eyes and ears open, try some volunteering for the time being - everything helps where you can meet people!!
