Looking to buy a gift for my soon to be 6 year old daughter. Does anyone have any ideas where to try for one of these?

Cheers

At that age I'd avoid a microscope that requires you to look through it. One, it's a little hard for someone that young to look through it properly, and two, while I'm no optometrist, I'd worried that eyes that young might be strained by looking through a microscope improperly. There are a number of inexpensive digital microscopes that display the image on a computer screen or a television. These are a lot easier to use, and it's nice for you and your child to be able to see the same image and point out interesting things.

Try googling EyeClops for an example.

Sorry I think it is the science centre out near snow city
15 Science Centre Road Singapore 609081 Tel: (65) 6425-2500

off Jurong Town Hall.  (I've just moved back to Melbourne and it is called science works here, sorry for the confusion.)

A 6 year old will be fine with the $40 set, just watch there is a bluntish scapel but you could remove that.
