Hi
I am currently trying to get a paralegal job in Singapore. I have heard that it is much easier to get a job if you are on the ground in Singapore but it is not really possible for me to move to Singapore without first securing employment.
I wonder if you could let me know in your experience how possible it is to obtain a paralegal position in Singapore while living abroad?
Also, if I did move to Singapore without having already obtained a position are there many paralegal positions available to expats? How long would it usually take to find work in Singapore?
I have a law degree and the LPC from the UK and I also have 7+ years paralegal work experience in commercial litigation.
Thanks!

Paralegals are not well recognised here - either you are a lawyer or you are not. The paralegals course run by the Law Society is in my opinion as a lawyer of many years standing greatly inferior to what is offered in England. I am not saying that you wont get a job but it will be tough and could take a long time.
Concentrate on the foreign firms. There has been a significant influx in recent years since the rules were relaxed around the need for a local tie up. If you can, use local contacts in the UK to connect directly with lawyers here. Forget about HR they are generally useless and most of them wouldn't know a good paralegal if they fell over one.
Legal recruitment here is hit and miss (mostly miss). As an employer I am bombarded with cvs from recruiters and very rarely do they meet my needs. There is only one firm that I use consistently. Can't give its full name here but if you google a contraction of legal laboratories you will find it.
Good luck you are in for a hard slog.
