Rental prices starting to slide:
"Housing rents in prime areas have dropped for the first time in nearly four years, as uncertainty in the global economy meant fewer executives are being hired, according to Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).
The global property consultancy firm said average rents in Districts 9, 10 and 11 fell 1.4 percent in the third quarter from Q2, the first decline since Q1 2008.
The drop was worse in the high-end residential segment, where Q3 rental rates plunged 1.9 percent from last year. Many experts said fears regarding global economic uncertainty are starting to be felt in the country, with companies halting hiring or holding back on employment packages for existing staff."

Its on the up. Think about it - small island (hello )lack of space, lots of new professional migrants arriving daily, booming economy. It follows that the property market here is always a good thing to buy into. Doesnt really matter what the stupid stock market is doing - people need a place to live.

Only 15%? Oh yeah, that settles it. Rents are definitely going down. He'll settle take $500 less than you pay now. If rents were going up, he would have asked for a 100% increase.

I always knew this would one day happen. It's alright though, I'll just turn tail and bore the crap out of you all by endlessly droning sell sell sell.

Nonsense. I am looking for a 5 rm hdb rental (3 bed equiv quality to condo inside) and they are now asking north of 3.5k in my humble heartlands district. These kind of places were going for 2.5k only 2 hrs back. Places around my area with Condo facilities like Bishan Loft are asking 5k for 3 bed (3.5k 2 years back). I only see rentals going ever skyward.

I think you are confusing asking prices with actual prices...

Of course the same old problem will cause tenants unnecessary cost and trouble. Landlords will refuse to budge on the rental forcing renewing tenants to look elsewhere. The landlord will keep the property empty for 3 months trying to get first the higher rental initially asked, then the same rental and finally 6 months down the road will accept the market rate to a new tenant while the previous tenant has to go through the whole home finding process again unnecessarily. The tenant is out of pocket and the landlord is out of pocket. You see it time and time again. Uniquely Singapore.
