Can anyone recommend some fun reading books (chapter books) for a boy aged 7+ Perhaps a series that he can follow would be great. I see lots of chapter fairy books for girls but could not really see any for boys.
Please help.

Check the Newberry award winners lists. Also don't rule out picture books - some are for older children.

Agree Geronimo Stilton is lots of fun. Also worth having a look at the Warriors (cats stories), Percy Jackson and Nancy Drew.

All mine loved (and youngest at 12 still loves) Horrid Henry. Also, the Horrible Science and History series.

My youngest daughter loved all of the horrible history/science/dead famous kind of books when she was around 8-9 (and she still does). She wasn't much of a serious fiction fan, but enjoyed Diary of a Wimpy kid and Geronimo Stilton when she was younger too.
Alex Rider and Percy Jackson might be a bit old for a 7 yr old but you never know (different children read these things at different ages), you'll have to have a look at them and see what you think, but I think that most Anthony Horowitz are aimed at the 10+ age group.
The Eragorn series is a bit of a hit in our house too and the Rangers Apprentice series (John Flanagan)
