quick weekend trip?

Any recommendations other than P Tioman for a quick weekend away in Malaysia? We want to drive from SIngapore. We are planning this trip to go in a couple of weeks' time. Beaches, forest, kid-friendly easy to drive to. That sort of thing.

Klebang beach in Malacca might work, or just Malacca in general.

I've only been to Tioman (flying) and Desaru (which is disappointing), but people always say that if you drive on further north than Desaru it gets much nicer along that coast (I'm presuming they don't mean driving as far as the boat to Redang    ).

[Rawa getaway]

Loved Rawa. You drive to mersing and catch a ferry. Nothing to do except snorkel and swim but the fish life is amazing. Accommodation is basic / rustic / cabin style with fan and ircon.  Food is buffet style and for a family it is great ...  But nothing special. It is good for three or four nights.

I have been to many short get aways that I won't revisit.  Bintan in indo and Desaru Malay that we wont revisit.....but this was a good adventure with good food and great beaches. We will go again.

Sea Gypsy at Sibu is nice with kids.  Not too far to drive, then short boat trip to the island.  Great kids club (even got my reluctant boys doing craft activities and loving it!).  Best part is that dinner for kids is served early, then adults eat later, whilst kids play (or younger ones go to bed).

Accommodation is fairly basic, but quite comfortable.  As I remember, no air-con, but nice sea breezes and mozzie nets provided.

We just came back from a weekend in Deseru and loved it.  Pulai Deseru hotel have just renovated.  Not all rooms are renovated though.  Beach nice and poolside great.  It just and hour and half away.

We've been to Tanjung Resang a few times. It's lovely, quite secluded, no crowds. And it's surrounded by pristine terrain, both jungle and beaches. The beaches are a bit rugged but awesome for long lazy strolls.

There's a little hill just behind the main compound there, Gunung Arong, that's ideal for a recreational hike.

The food is great, the accommodation is basic but clean and cheap. All in all, an ideal place for a family weekend away.

I second Tanjung Resang, a quaint little bay as yet undiscovered by the mass tourist industry. Family-owned chalets, freshly prepared food, almost untouched surroundings. Our kids had a blast on the gear rental, SUP, skim *** etc. It's shallow water, no current, ideal.

Thanks PPs for that tip about Tanjung Resang which I had never heard of before and sounds just what we're after. Should we pack snorkling gear? Great to hear there's a bit of hiking too - kids are very into that at present.

We took our kids to TR once this summer and are likely to go again. We didn't bring our snorkel gear, but there's an operator that can set you up at some locations nearby. It blew us away that you can get a sea this clear so near Singapore.

We didn't hike, but some people we met at the resort went on a climb behind the resort. They said the view was beautiful, so maybe we'll try that next time we go.

Thanks for all your help - any names of beach cabin owners or small resorts In TR as I am finding it difficult to get something specifically there. Help really appreciated.

Not sure if I'm allowed to name names, but the place we stayed at was run by an outfit that's abbreviated as MSS. Decent place, quite basic but a good fit with the natural and serene surroundings.

Try emailing them, coz they replied promptly to my emails.
