We are planning on joining my husband on a trip to Sri Lanka in Fen 2012. He will be competing in the triathlon there which is in Colombo. We have 2 children under 6, so do not plan on hanging around the capital post race. Are there any beautiful coastal resorts nearby (or an easy flight) that anyone can recommend in Sri Lanka for say a further 5 or 6 nights stay. We would rather experience Sri Lanka a bit rather than hop over to the Maldives.
Any recommendations for a safe resort and family friendly hotel?
Regards

There are beautiful, luxurious coastal resorts along the Galle coast. Or you can head towards Kandy which is in the hills. There are many hotels in Kandy itself but I stayed at Ellerton bungalow which is about half an hour's drive from Kandy. The staff are well trained and service is exceptional. Or if you want to head right into the heart of the tea estates, go to Nuwarya Elia.
Be aware that traffic is heavy and slow moving and some roads have not been well maintained.
