Hi the adventure park has big rides Disney land has variety but lots for little kids. Their website is very good to show the difference. The beaches are good around LA - wave can be quite large depending on the time of year. Water parks etc and another Universal studios...... enjoy

Knott's Berry Farm is right up the street from Disneyland and has a variety of rides for your kids. Mid to high teens prefer 6 flags magic mountain up north. There is also a place down near Disney called Medieval times; interesting dinner show. But beaches, beaches, beaches......
Also, just south of LA between LA and San Diego is Legoland. It has rides and lego type activities. A bit overpriced, but your age children would love it.
I have never been to California Adventure as last time at D-land Anaheim was 1999. Been to Orlando and Paris Disney's since though. Teen daughter went to Cali Adventure and liked it. I think the Disneyland park might be best for the ages of your kids though. In 5 years, they will be over at Cali Adventure instead.
