I think the people who are saying to ditch the dog have never had pets.

If anyone is prepared to take a risk with an over-pampered and jealous pooch with behavioural issues and a baby they should never be allowed children

Maybe the OP stated that giving up the dog is not an option because she made a commitment to keep the pet for life and not just treat it as an object. She can only make the decision after she's truly worked with the dog and a trainer and seen whether or not necessary changes are possible. Really, think about it, she at least owes it to the dog to give it a try, then before the baby arrives she can have a better idea of just what risks there are.

I think that she is on the right track by even concerning herself with these things. How many dog owners/parents don't even bother.?

well it appears you cant win on this site>  If I had of said i want to get rid of my dog becasue it barks and there is a baby on the way there would have been an uproar about why have a dog in the first place

I am admitting along with many others like me that the dog needs discipline and I want to try and do something about it now before the baby comes along of course if this does not work then we will have to look at re homing the dog but we have to at least try

thank you to those who have read my post correctly and replied helpfully

to the rest of you unless you can be helpful dont bother

Treating a dog like "your best friend" will create a potential enemy. The respect is not there, therefore there is contempt.

Treating a child is much the same. They need rules, routines which give them confidence and they feel cared for. These are part of what constitutes love, an intelligent parent will have for a child.

I used to call to my dog using a single command "heel" and it would take up position at my right heel a little behind me and remain there. It was comfortable knowing what was expected of it.

Unfortunately it did not work for my ex wife. Perhaps this is why it is said that a dog is a man's best friend. Huh In fact I was walking from a Cold Store not that long ago, my girlfriend a little behind me laden with plastic bags. She called out "hey Mohammed!"
So damned rude.

The source of all the anti-Israeli / jewish nonsense you post - linking them to every ill in this world is finally understood.
