We have friends coming in to Singapore for a few weeks in two weeks.  Looking for some good bars/clubs to take them to.  We are all in our 30s like live bands and a bit of dancing though not a prerequisite.  Haven't been out forever, so would appreciate any thoughts on new places that anyone could recommend. Local atmosphere would be good.

Also any fun new restaurants ( by fun.... some atmosphere and buzz, good food, any type, not too expensive).

Thanks for the help in advance.

Take the money you would spend on a lame overpriced place here and fly to Bangkok or Bali.

And yes, I'm being serious.

To pp, why are they insane? I too agree with that thought! A decent night out here is expensive and lack the entertainment OP is looking for.

Why not make a suggestion instead of putting others down? Seems to be the Singapore way these days sadly!!!

If you come here and can't afford a decent night out, presumably you can't afford the air ticket either, let alone the additional cost of flights to bangkok or bali.

To even suggest "Take the money you would spend on a lame overpriced place here and fly to Bangkok or Bali" invites the response "Why not make a suggestion instead of putting others down? Seems to be the expat way these days sadly!!!"

Night outs here do not have to involve getting bladdered at Ku De Ta.  Use imagination, use some intelligence, get Time Out or research the internet.  Go to a decent hawker place where you can eat cheaply, try different foods - some of them damned good, and get those double size bottles for $6.  Then after eating and getting a buzz on, hit the bars and clubs.

pp, you have no suggestions for specific places which is what the op asked for?

Plane tix to bkk, bali, hcm etc aren't all that much and if someone is staying here a few weeks, why not take them to one of these more vibrant spots?

Hawker fine but not every night for all of us and certainly cannot say it constitutes an amazing party scene.

As soon as any poster mentions specific bars, there's a 90% chance that the trolls - yourself? - will pounce and slate every single suggestion as being crap/touristy/expatty.  It ain't worth it - check Time Out and see what suits.

Everyone is going to share same opinion as you hence differing responses or have you forgotten about having one after being here so long? If that is a troll in your mind, should get out more.

Time Out Singapore online too. 3 weeks in Sing visiting is certainly long enough to get a deal and have time to travel to nearby areas whether suggested by other po sters or not.

was clearly given - check Time Out.

funny watching people like you contradict yourselves so quickly - you talk about others not sharing my opinion and in the same line ask if I've forgotten to have one.

Here's another opinion - you're a tool.

Yeah - Bangkok, GREAT idea!  Idiot...

Bali - Cheap = Kuta = masses of Australian trash ("bogans"), all wearing tank tops like it's their uniform of the day.  Anything nice in Bali is not cheap.

Anyone that can't use the internet in online-saturated Singapore to find some decent bars and restaurants probably just needs to stay home.

there are good deals for flights now.

For pp, you are one angry person. Get out much? I do, and to spend 3 weeks in Singapore without taking the opportunity to use this location as a hub is a crying shame if one has the opportunity.

As for Bali, I've never spent time in Kuta and if that's all you think Bali is made up of, I feel sorry for you.

Given that you've never spent time there? I suspect you're lying again.

Yo mate - used to go every 8 weeks or so for both work and pleasure and was also married there. It's also a wonderful place but yes, Kuta is quite nasty. Sorry you had such bad visits there and didn't leave the greater airport tourist area. if you return have many places you may enjoy. Cheers.

haha...live music, nightlife  Huh Get real.

Unless you like listening to the same tired geriatric expat jazz and blues bands, latino music, or lame hotel lobby filipino imitation covers bands, then take this advice and go to Bali or Bangkok for decent live expat music.

If you must do it here, tell your friends to bring plenty of money and a packet of straws to sip their beer.  With beer at $15 a pop, they'll need it.
