Considering a few days in Oman (Muscat) with family over Christmas, has anyone been there recently and can recommend guesthouses, areas to stay/avoid, please? Thanks!

There aren't that many places to stay out of Muscat. The Chedi's lovely as is the Al Bustan. Go on a trip through Nizwa and the interior, I'll try and remember the place we usually stayed's name - maybe the Al Falaj?? Simple rooms around a pool.

I used to live opposite the al Falaj 35 years ago.
Oman is a spectacular country anywhere from Salalah all the way through Sur up to the tip of Musandum.
