I'm a bored mom that would like to start a business and need a little advice on how to apply for a business licence here. I'm on a Dependents pass, can I apply or does my spouse? What about rental for a shop? Can I legally do this? I'd look into black and whites (rooms for rent) as it would be cheaper but need some space.

Anyone set up their own business here and care to share??

Gracias!

How unammusing!

It's funny how ignorant some people can be. I'm a woman that's actually trying to do something other than be an expat wife and I get this!

thank you to the other poster for the link...I appreciate it!

hope whatever you are hoping to do with your time works out, but I should point out that you will still be an expat wife so long as you are an expat, female and married!

Yes, but at least I'll be working and making money again...not just spending my husbands, getting hair done, coffee mornings and complaining how! I know some enjoy that but I'm a worker and want to do something with my life again.

OP, I had some empathy with you until you started slagging off other women's choices.

Why do you care what other women do with their time?

I don't do "coffee" or "lunch" but certainly don't think there's anything wrong with women that do.

cityscoops is a book you can buy at any bookshop. it's an independent guide of everything nice in singapore. very useful when you first arrive, great to give to guests who don't know what to do, full of good tips, websites etc. they also have a website and just released an update from the first book.

Easy easy...Wasn't slagging moms I was slagging me.  When I first arrived I focused on getting the family into a routine and liking it here and while doing that I have become a coffee morning person... and I don't even drink coffee!!

People can do whatever it is they want. I don't judge or throw stones. I just know what I've done, what I'm doing and what I want to do.

You can either register a business or incorporate a company. For the latter, you must have at least one local director, meaning he/she must at least be holding an employment pass.

As for a business (sole-proprietorship/partnership), you need to check if ACRA allows dependant pass holders to register the business.

Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore is located at International Plaza, 5th floor.

sorry to hear that you feel like that.  I'm also sorry that women here have such a bad press.  I don't work, or at least I don't earn money.  I still work, but in the house.  Someone's got to do it and I don't want a maid.

Just because a woman (or a man!) doesn't go out to work, please don't assume she (or he!) does nothing.

Someone has to be there to cook, clean, pick the kids up from school and generally be on hand for the mundane things in life.

I find it sad that everyone seems to think that we're a useless waste of time if we just do what people have been doing (or wishing they could afford to do) for generations.

why has the human race gone down this avenue I wonder?

I did both, career which allowed me to be at home appromimately 15 days a month and when at home I was the full time mom, cleaner, shopper, cook and driver...no maid!

Now, living here I had to get the family settled in and while doing that I went out and had some time for myself (result, coffee, hair and hanging out). Now, these were things I've never done, ever and now that I did all of the above and the family is settled I'd like to get back to work. My choice. Money is fine here, kids are happy, we don't have a maid and yes I'll still be cleaning, cooking etc but I like to work outside of the home too...again my choice.
