I am planning a trip to Vietnam and can either go just with my mum or with the kids too (2 and 4 years old).

Which is the best option/location for a long weekend.

Highly suggest you leave toddlers at home and bring mother on a brief weekend trip.  The kids will not enjoy the constant heat and humidity waiting for taxis around Vietnam, will not remember the trip later except from few images, and they might be exhausted from unfamiliar food and environment .

Better still, leave the kids with their grandmother at home and go by yourself.
