I am in Zurich for 10 days in March 2012. Do I need to join the guided tours for Old Town and other attractions? Or its good enough to walk around with a map.

I joined a Guided tour in Normandy and throughly enjoyed the experience.

Its a good idea - especially as it also gives you loads of historical information which you will not get if you just walk on your own...

it is very easy to get round and loads of people in the center speak English....

enjoy !

You mean your expat man is there for work and you're supposed to entertain yourself, haha!
Zurich is tiny. In 10 days you will have seen all the sights 10 times, so I wouldn't bother with a guide and just get lonely planet. It's not exactly dangerous or difficult either.

But she is a princess, thus unable to think for herself, proven by her post.

I will be there for work and taking a few days off for play.

It's been so many years and Trolls are still alive.
