Hi everyone,
I was hoping you could help me with following question. Currently I am living in Dubai, but thinking of moving to Singapore. Companies ask for salary expectations and it's very hard, since I have never lived there.
Could you tell me what kind of lifestyle my husband (no children) and me could live of 6000-7000 SGD?
Thank you very much!

are talking of that salary each, you may get by. Certainly not on that 1 salary for 2 people, your "lifestyle" would be non existent

yes but your husband would need to get a job as well. That said you could live in an HDB and get around fine with just your salary, but it would be tight.

That's too low to live decently in Singapore.
$10k is the minimum to live decently ...even then, you will have to use the crowded MRT and bus, live in a rented HDB flat.

6500 SGD per month would be junior level management position. For a family of 2 it would be decent amount, though your savings will depend on the kind of expenses you incur. It would be cheaper to live in a 3 BR HDB for a lower rent than chose to live in a high rent condo with half the space. Generally costs are higher than Dubai ( based on input from friends who have moved from Dubai to Sin). Forget about buying a car. However public transport is light years ahead of Dubai, though it can be overcrowded on buses and trains during the rush hour. You will basically be living like a local, but despite what the trolls on this board will tell you, there is no shame in that. The level of public infrastructure available in singapore is better than Dubai and other western countries, so you will always have low cost options of whatever you are used to in Dubai. Anyway, if both of you are young and the salary is more than what you currently make in Dubai, then I'd say come over and experience Singapore for a couple of years.

Don't forget that you are in Singapore to make some decent money for your retirement. $6500 a month wouldn't allow you to save any, unless you want to live like the locals.

I realise that this is a forum for rich high-flyers, but please keep in mind: Singapore average household income is S$5400/month, and this includes parents, kid(s) and in many cases grandparents living together. Most of them live quite well, at least compared to the neighbouring countries.

...and with subsidised housing, subsidised schools, etc.

$5400 average household income to support an extended family of 6 people is not the kind of standard of living for foreigners seeking to find their riches in Singapore.
Foreigners are here to save a huge nest-egg so that when they are done in Singapore, they can choose not to work again.

Foreigners are not here to save a huge nest egg, a lot are here for the experience of working overseas and building a career, so not all people come here to be able to save money. In recent times it has become a norm for foreigners to come here on local terms and conditions, not a full expat package and many are willing to alter their living standards and patterns accordingly

err no, most foreigners come to Singapore to earn money due to the relatively low tax. In fact it is not considered a good career move to move to Singapore, it is better to stick around HQ.

Bear in mind that if you are not on a PR you will need to set aside money for the pension from those 6-7k. Medical bills can get very pricey as well so if you are a bit older it may be something to consider as well.

Singapore is not cheap and the experience you gained here in worth little back home. If you do come - demand for a huge jump in compensation to make it worth your while. You will be working long hours and experience some contempt from the locals. Would a monthly salary of $6500 make that worthwhile? I think not.
