Your child would be entering at 8 - P3 on the local schools. The system here is that you have to contact the principals of the locals schools and see who has availability. The good thing is around P2 to P3 there is some movement and you should be able to find a place. I wouldnt just consider the districts that you mentioned, but expand to nearby districts. Also all the local schools use bus companies for students to get to and from school - off course your choice if you use them - but the buses go all over the Island. I know of children at my child's school doing daily 20km commutes each way.

The local school fees on an EP are around 4k a year. Bus fees are on top off that.

To understand more about local schools I suggest you read one of the local forums called Kiasu Parents.

I have my child at a local school. We very much like that school and we certainly dont do tuition every day.

He is NOT Singaporean!!!!   These schools are vastly oversubscribed by citizens and PR's alike - as are the good neighbourhood schools.   The stark truth is that as an EXPAT, his daughter will only get into schools that Singaporeans and PR's don't want their children going to.   It is what it is, and Simon needs to base his choices and decisions on the truth not the stuff that you and Scorn (if you are not the same person) are spouting.

What I was trying to say is that he can send his non-Singaporean child to any neighbourhood school which has vacancies, and if his child does well in the PSLE, he/she would still be able to enter ACS/Raffles because admission into secondary school is based on your PSLE score, not on your nationality.

Many ACS/Raffles (secondary school) students were from neighbourhood schools, and these same students are able to excel academically even without the help of tuition. My point is - it doesn't matter if OP isn't able to get his child into the "top" primary schools. imo, the "top" primary schools aren't that different from the neighbourhood schools. At this age, imo, it is more important to provide your child with a well-rounded education instead of focusing too much academically.

You're telling Simon he's going to get his kid into one of these prestigious schools?

If he is planning on sending his children to a local primary school, and if they proceed to take the PSLE, their chances of getting into ACS or Raffles are the same as any other Singaporean.

Yes, entry to these schools is based on whether you’re a citizen or a PR, how far you live from the school and how much volunteer work you’ve done for the school and the local community.
