Hi,

Any suggestions for what we could do with a 3 yr old boy in Singapore during Christmas....expecting our second baby at the same time so outdoor activity ideas for the older one would be very helpful.

Thanks.

imagine the activities at Christmas will be the same as at any other time of the year, except that outdoor activities will be maybe a tad wetter.

You could try reading yourself. It sounds like she is trying to play with him. Have you ever been heavily pregnant in this heat with a child who needs to keep active?

If you get the Straits Times there are usually ads for shows to go and see at the malls (aircon!)   There is the Titanic exhibition at Marina Bay Sands, which friends have raved about as it is quite hands on.  The Science Centre has a dinosaur exhibition on and a great water play park.  Jurong Bird Park?
Jacob Ballas Garden in the Botanic Gardens (there is a water play area and heaps of shelter for the downpours.)

What are you looking for?

Take him to malls, find a Santa, show him some Christmas Trees, feed him mince pies, go to or hold festive parties for him and his wee pals, go see Jack and the Beanstalk, go see Christmas movies

All pretty intuitive stuff

What the heck is up with all these snarky responses...if you don't have anything useful to say, people, do consider just zipping it.

OP, the PP has some good suggestions. There are tons of Christmas-theme shows at the malls - Dora/Diego, Hi5, and a fairy show are the just the ones I've heard of so far. Jacob Ballas is great too, and the Science Park is a big hit with my 3 and 5-year olds. The dinosaur exhibition with the live-action sounds might be a bit scary for some little ones, but there's tons of other fun things to do there.

Good luck. I've been pregnant with a lively little one at home, and it's not easy. Hope you have an easy delivery and a healthy baby!

Lots of armchair commentators who lack imagination or understanding for a pregnant mom!  It's difficult to ask for advice on this board without being criticised for not already knowing the answer, being privileged in some way, or for no specific reason at all.

You'll know these, already, but:

There are some great playgrounds
The zoo/bird park/ Sungei Buloh
East cost park - bicycles (you may have to bring your own bike/trike for a 3-year old)
Swimming or swimming lessons
Find a 3 year old friend - though they don't play that well together at 3 years
I used to take my son to construction sites to watch the bulldozers and cranes
He also liked taking short rides on the subway
You can watch the traffic and Malaysian strains by the waterfront near the causeway.  There's a nice park (with playground0 and walking paths close to Admiralty Park
Singapore flyer/Top of Marina Bay Sands
Bum boats out to Pulau Ubin - where they also have bicycles and paths
Boats along Clark & Boat Quay

It can be exhausting to keep a 3 year old engaged.  But reading books together was always a pleasant experience.  Crafts, cutting out the comics, Legos, toy trains, etc.

Wishing you a good recovery from your delivery!

Apparently, "getting on with it" means being mean spirited and unhelpful, if the responses are any guide.

To be clear, I have not contributed to any of these "mean spirited" comments but I understand the sentiment.

Allow me to explain:

Many people disapprove of parents who have lost touch with how to engage with their own children through (over)use of a maid. Ergo, unless OP is fresh off the boat, her question is a bit worrying.
