Pagoda Street is too touristy and I believe the shop keepers charge an arm and a leg. Where are the other stores in Chinatown (where the locals shop from) ? I'm looking to buy Chinese artifacts.

There's a 4 or 5 storey Made in China emporium at the corner of Cross and Eu Tong Sen Sts. called Yue Hwa. Across the street at Chinatown point you'll find some other shops selling curios.

I used to live in Chinatown a few years ago and every sunday morning we roamed around the market (bit of a flea market too!) at the beginning of Keong Saik Road, just before Kreta Ayer. There's the Chinatown Complex and on the right hand side of it are great shops with Chinese stuff and as said a little market in front. North Bridge Road also has plenty shops with artifacts, just roam and enjoy!
