2 weeks for trip to middle east with kids?

We visited Dubai earlier this year and LOVED it. We would like to go back there in March. We have 2 weeks. We are thinking of maybe a week there and a week or couple of hops over to somewhere else nearby (e.g. Muscat). Any recommendations as to where we can take the kids around the city of Dubai or a 1-1.5 hour flight from Dubai for a family holiday. Our children are 2 and 6.

It is worth to verify dates.  Distance to each place is far; few attractions open at specific dates, a couple stay open only 2 days in a year-check at I.  Emirates are helpful, friendly -and efficient PR. We enjoyed our unforgettable trip
