I am a Brit working in Dubai. Every so often I come to Singapore for a holiday and recently I wanted to learn to do some commercial diving, I am 25.

I enquired at 1 company and they said I have to be PR or Citizen, my block leave is 2 weeks every 3 months. Is this normal for every company requiring you to be PR or citizen? All I wanted to do was learn and pay for it!! And in a location I like.

Yes, it is quite common that employers ask for PRs or Citizens.

What exactly is commercial diving ?

Padi do not teach commercial diving, I don't think anyone does in Singapore, need to go oz.

That said some people around here will hire recreational divers to do commercial jobs but not advisable.

To be honest there are specialist dive forums, I won't name as like get deleted but there are a couple of global ones and one Singapore specific one.
