I need to go home this summer for about a month as we want to buy an apartment and sort out some things back home that are going to are a bit of time. Thing is, I usually stay with my in-laws and my own family for a week when I am there so they can see my daughter. I am OK to stay with my relies, but do not want to stay with my in-laws as they are really vile to me.
What do you do when you go home (if you are in a similar situation). Do you stay in an apartment or rent a place. I need ideas please to keep the peace whilst keeping my sanity.

This is one of the pains in the backside for us. None of our relatives own a house big enough for all of us (and there are only 4 of us), so we end up renting a cottage or somewhere for a few weeks and it costs a small fortune.
I go to my mum's but she's got a 2 bed house and my husband does't want to be cooped up there so we only go for about a week at most. He sometimes goes to his mum's who's got a 3 bed house but we wouldn't want to stay there as once the novelty of seeing us all has worn off (after about one night!) you get the impression that you're in the way.
So we rent. Best done out of peak holiday time so if your kids break up before the kids back home do it's cheaper.
Trouble is where we're from, if your family don't live in an area which is particularly popular for tourists, the choice is limited. You could google 'serviced apartments' though as well as self-catering or whatever - if you're from a city, chances are there will be quite a few short-term lets around like that.
