Just wondering, I was planning a pedicure on Sunday which is cny eve and was told of a 50% surcharge, but when I checked the price it was double which would be 100% surcharge??  It was pointless to argue, has anyone else encountered this?

You often (if not always) get CNY surcharges at places like beauty salons and hairdressers.  My hairdresser just puts $10 on the price but I suppose what they charge is up to them.

I'm not really sure why they do it - whether it is because they are so busy or whether it's because most people don't tip so they stick an extra charge on to force people to give a tip.

Whatever it is, it should be back to normal soon so I guess you could either hold off on the pedicure or look for somewhere else which only charges $10 or so.  I'm not sure when they ditch the surcharge - I don't think it's on Wednesday after the public holiday - I believe it goes on for another week or so.

There are 15 days of Chinese New Year ... the surcharges will apply until that period is over.

The surcharge is fine my question was regarding the maths, pedicure costing $35 add 50% surcharge and the price becomes $70.

hmmm, well beauticians aren't that well known for their mathematical skills..........but it could be a translation error.

I wouldn't pay it either way - $35 extra is a rip-off.

is that you go to NEX .. it is the 2nd biggest shopping mall in Singapore. Vivocity is the biggest.

There's a large number of manicure / pedicure shops so the prices quoted are very competitive.

You can take the MRT to Serangoon Station. The mall is located above the station.
